The Road to Chattanooga

Volkswagen Group of America proudly announces its decision to build a new production facility in Chattanooga, Tenn., with the goal to be in production in early 2011.

Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, said, "This is a significant step forward in achieving our goals in the U.S. market and a clear sign of the Volkswagen Group's commitment to the North American consumer. Today's decision is a fundamental part of our new strategic direction in the U.S. and our five-pillar strategy. Chattanooga is an excellent fit for the Volkswagen culture, having an exceptional quality of life and a long manufacturing tradition."

Tennessee's state slogan is "America at its best." We wholeheartedly agree. In the beautiful green landscape of Tennessee we've found the ideal home to confirm our commitment to the North American economy and its drivers.

Initially investing $1 billion in the region and providing up to 2,000 jobs, we plan to design and build an innovative, efficient and affordable new automobile model specifically for the evolving demands of North American drivers.

Thanks to the visionary leaders and people of Chattanooga, we're confident that the values of this area are compatible with our own, and we envision a long and productive partnership.

The Chattanooga Turnaround

Like many other cities with an industrial past, changing times once threatened to leave Chattanooga in rust and decline. But unlike some other cities facing the same fate, Chattanooga's leadership and citizens chose to restore, reinvest and reinvent.

Now, the city's historical artery, the Tennessee River, is lined with an 11-mile riverwalk park, featuring a restored wetlands ecosystem and paths for walking and biking.

A fine example of the "New Urbanism" movement, downtown Chattanooga offers riverfront residential living, green spaces and shopping, all within easy walking distance. Outside Magazine lists Chattanooga among its "Ten Best Towns, 2008."

The people of Chattanooga took responsibility for their city's future and made great things happen. We look forward to being a part of that energy.
