Volkswagen Reaches an Important Milestone in Building Chattanooga Plant
Installment of Equipment begins November 2nd, 2009

Workers of Southern Fabrication Contractors LLC, Chattanooga, are erecting the first equipment in the paint paint shop at Volkswagen’s new Chattanooga plant

Chattanooga, Tenn. — Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations, LLC. has started installing the first equipment in its new plant at Enterprise South, Chattanooga, TN, according to plan. Supplier Southern Fabrication Contractors of Chattanooga, TN, delivered support steel on behalf of general contractor Eisenmann, Germany, for later installation of dip tanks and has started to put it in place.

“Today marks an important milestone for building the new plant. We start to install the first equipment and we begin at the paint shop, one of the most important buildings of the new plant”, said Lothar Grensemann, future manager of the paint shop. He continued,” We are on the spot with our schedule. Today’s sunny weather casts the right light on a promising cooperation with Chattanoogan Southern Fabrication Contractors and Eisenmann.”

Volkswagen Group of America Inc. will invest $1 billion in the local economy for the Chattanooga plant and create 2,000 direct jobs in the region. According to independent studies, the new Volkswagen plant is expected to generate $12 billion in income growth and an additional 9,500 jobs over the life of the project. The Chattanooga plant will build a new midsize sedan specially designed for the North American market. Approximately 30 percent of these cars will be powered by Volkswagen's TDI Clean Diesel Technology.
