In March 2009, the Volkswagen Group of America announced a $5.28 million expansion of the Partners in Education program in Tennessee, the new home of its manufacturing operations in the U.S. With this expansion, the partnerships with primary and secondary schools, universities, and a leading national laboratory positively impact students throughout their education. We now proudly support students and teachers at Chattanooga State Community College, Fisk University, Hamilton County Public Schools, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee State University, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, and University of Tennessee – Knoxville.
- Investing in
Like many cities with an industrial past, changing times once threatened to leave Chattanooga behind. But the city's leadership and citizens chose to restore, reinvest and reinvent. That continuing focus on sustainability has resulted in development projects and new jobs. And Volkswagen is proud to be at work and home in Tennessee. Our new hometown America assembly plant in Chattanooga begins production in 2011. As part of our commitment to our new home, we are investing $1 billion in Chattanooga and throughout Tennessee.
- Our Environmental
Because Volkswagen Group of America has a longstanding commitment to sustainable mobility and environmentally responsible manufacturing, we're proud to become a part of Chattanooga's vision of revitalization, with its emphasis on a clean, healthy environment and natural beauty. Not only can production be compatible with a clean environment, we believe the future depends on a dedicated partnership between the two. In fact, Chattanooga's environmental emphasis makes us feel right at home.
- Good People,
It's a winning combination. Volkswagen Group of America will open the doors of our new Chattanooga facility with an initial investment of $1 billion, resulting in about 2,000 direct jobs. And we're confident the new automobile model we build there, designed especially for North American drivers, will be successful enough to create even more jobs in the future.
We admire the enthusiasm, skills and work ethic of the people of the tri-state area. We look forward to putting down roots and making new friends, and we look forward to having a positive impact on the quality of life and prosperity of the region.
